Tom Cruise and David Beckham are no strangers to one another, but for some reason, their fist bump at the Euro 2020 final on Sunday is making headlines.
It was a highly charged event. I even heard shouts and screams reverberate around my Cape Town apartment last night, so perhaps people are just excited.
Some English fans were perhaps a little too excited, and the same can be said for the pitch invader who scurried around the pitch in the final minutes of regular time.
Of course, Beckham, being the former England captain, was in the stands at Wembley to support his former team.
Cruise, on the other hand, is just a big fan of the England football team.
So much so that he’s fond of FaceTiming captain Harry Kane and giving the team an exclusive pre-screening of his new film.
Both would have been happy with England’s start, taking the lead early on through left-back Luke Shaw.
Despite being socially distanced, the two men bumped fists in acknowledgement of Shaw’s early strike, which fans seemed to have really loved.
One even going as far as to say that it “almost topped Luke Shaw’s goal”.
This is what all the fuss is about:

Perhaps Cruise had the whole thing planned as a plot for his next movie:

Honestly, he’s just a busy guy who enjoys sports and the spotlight, having been seen at the women’s and men’s Wimbledon singles finals:

What Cruise and Beckham didn’t know at the time of their bro-like contact, was that Italy would come back to pip England to the title – the real story worthy of making headlines.
