Matt Hancock, now the former British health secretary, has landed himself into quite the pickle.
Hancock’s three-year tenure as health secretary came to an end after images and a video was published showing him kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo.
Both Hancock and Coladangelo (pictured above) are married, but were seen smooching in his ministerial office.
It’s been reported that Hancock has now left his wife to start a relationship with Coladangelo.
Not only is this palaver about an affair but also a serious breaching of COVID-19 restrictions, by the very person in charge of handling the pandemic in the country, nogal.
Basically, he is the guy who preached to the nation to hug “carefully” and then went on to canoodle with his mistress anyway:
Hancock has rightfully been branded a hypocrite for this.
Over the course of the pandemic, he has repeatedly spoken about the need for social distancing and other measures.
Pity he can’t heed his own advice:
In a letter to the Prime Minister via The Guardian, Mr Hancock said:
“The last thing I would want is for my private life to distract attention from the single-minded focus that is leading us out of this crisis.
“I want to reiterate my apology for breaking the guidance, and apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this. I also need to be with my children at this time.
He released this video:
A couple of other politicians were reportedly pleased to see him go, except for Boris Johnson, who said he “should leave office very proud of what [he has] achieved – not just in tackling the pandemic, but even before COVID-19 struck us”.
Meanwhile, as per The Daily Mail, Mr Hancock’s wife, Martha Hancock, who has “maintained a dignified silence” since the images and video of the affair were released, has to deal with her “disgraced husband”.
The couple married in 2006 and have three children.
I imagine no amount of flowers put on the doorstep will help:
Hours earlier, a bouquet of flowers was delivered to the London house.
While a note could be seen poking out of the arrangement – which was placed on the doorstep by a delivery man – it is not clear who they were from.
The pretty pink peonies probably reeked of something like guilt.
