Martin Dubravka is a classic example of ‘from hero to zero’.
Some falls from grace take years, but Dubravka’s took just 18 minutes.
In yesterday’s Euro 2020 Group E clash between Slovakia and Spain, the ‘keeper pulled off a great penalty save in the 12th minute to deny Alvaro Morata.
Another nightmare moment for the Spanish striker, and a great confidence booster for Martin.
Then came the half-hour mark, and what should have been a routine touch behind for a corner, after Pablo Sarabia’s long-range shot had cracked against the crossbar.
Instead, the Slovakian ‘keeper managed to punch the ball into his own net, gifting Spain a 1-0 lead:

That’s certainly not what us Newcastle United fans want to see from the man who will start next season between the sticks for the Toon.
Naturally, with such a howler, there are memes.

You get the drift.
As Squawka points out, his night to forget didn’t end there:
…he was caught out for Spain’s second just before half-time. Slovakia had only half-cleared a corner and Pedri put the ball back into the area, lifting it over the Slovakian defence. Gerard Moreno was the recipient, beating Dubravka to the ball and leaving the Newcastle shot-stopper in an awkward position.
Dubravka was unable to correct his positioning as Moreno dinked the ball towards the back post for Aymeric to head in his first Spain goal.
Dubravka’s side then capitulated, with Spain running out 5-0 winners, and Slovakia failing to qualify for the final 16 due to their terrible goal difference.
