Most South Africans don’t want a camera shoved in their faces at the best of times.
When you stand accused of conning very disgruntled clients out of their hard-earned money, that’s especially true.
Over the years, Carte Blanche‘s investigations have put many a crook in an uncomfortable position, and we’ve grown accustomed to footage of people fleeing with a reporter in hot pursuit.
Sunday’s segment, titled ‘Log Cabin Con’, required Macfarlane Moleli and his camera crew to give chase:
Planning to downsize your home? Based in Gauteng, a log cabin builder sells dreams using fancy pictures, impressive plans, and a smooth sales pitch to lead some clients to invest their hard-earned money into a tailor-made solution for their lives.
From Brakpan to Kuruman, Carte Blanche meets clients who are out of pocket and without the homes they saved and scrimped for.
We expose his lies about membership to industry bodies and examine his questionable workmanship. Have the fabrications and exaggerations finally caught up with him?
Suffice to say the segment wouldn’t have made for pleasant Sunday viewing for Jan de Klerk, the man accused of swindling his clients.
If you came here just for the chase, you can skip ahead to the 7:30 mark:
