Television has no shortage of entertainment.
But in case there is ever a shortage, there’s a show that lets us watch people watching familiar entertainment shows and classic films.
It’s called Gogglebox and is typically a Channel 4 series in the UK, where regular people are filmed in their own homes while watching the highest-rated shows on British television.
There is something strangely pleasant about seeing families, friends, and couples gather cosily together for a good old bonding session in front of the telly.
Catching their candid and often hilarious reactions offers a unique perspective on a lot of what would go amiss while watching these shows alone, or it offers a moment of bonding with the human race as we realise we are often thinking the same thing.
A Gogglebox episode from May that features My Octopus Teacher has recently resurfaced since well-known journalist and writer Max du Preez shared the video on Facebook.
SA People reported that the Gogglebox video has since been going around local social media channels.
Since the doccie about Craig Foster bonding with the eight-legged creature in our kelp forests won an Oscar and a BAFTA not so long ago, it’s hard to just drop our pride and forget about this win for our country.
That’s why watching some UK folk watch My Octopus Teacher is a welcome treat after such a dessert, and with all that British humour, you know it’s even moreish:
If that’s not enough Goggleboxing, there’s also a version from Australia posted in September last year:
