As you can see from that image above, it’s fair to say that 37-year-old Gosiame Thamara Sithole was ‘showing’.
That’s quite a bump you have there, ma’am.
Well, the bump is no more, and if an IOL report is to be believed, Sithole gave birth to 10 babies last night, breaking the Guinness World Record.
I say ‘if’ because the man who wrote the report, Piet Rampedi, is notorious for his role in the fake SARS ‘rogue unit’ stories from years back.
But let’s focus on Sithole, who had previously believed she was carrying octuplets, before giving birth in a hospital in Pretoria last night, according to husband Teboho Tsotetsi:
He said Sithole, who hails from Tembisa Township in Ekurhuleni, delivered her seven boys and three girls by Caesarean section…
Speaking to the Pretoria News last night, Tsotetsi said Sithole gave birth to their bundles of joy 29 weeks into her pregnancy.
“It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” Tsotetsi said.
Initial scans had shown Sithole was carrying six children, but two had not been detected as they were “inside the wrong tube”.
Last month, during an interview at their home in Tembisa, Sithole and Tsotetsi spoke about being in a state of disbelief when they were told about the octuplets:
“I didn’t believe it. I doubted it. I was convinced that if it was more, it would be twins or triplets, not more than that. When the doctor told me, I took time to believe it. Even when I saw the scans I didn’t believe it. But, as time went by, I realised it was indeed true. I battled to sleep at night though.”
Professor Dini Mawela, the deputy head of the school of medicine at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, says it’s likely that the babies will spend the next few months in an incubator, due to the “high risk” nature of the pregnancy.
At present, this story is only being reported by IOL. If other outlets verify the information, we will update accordingly.
