2018’s A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song).

That song was ‘Shallow’, which features a duet between the stars, and the official music video has been viewed well over a billion times.

There are countless covers and parodies out there, but props to the Ndlovu Youth Choir for their take.

We’re going to avoid saying it will ‘get you in the feels’, because we’re adults, but hearing the song sung in isiXhosa, with Table Mountain as a backdrop, may cause a goosebump or two.

The song comes from their latest album, Rise, and features the 30-strong choir giving it horns. This from IOL:

Ralf Schmitt, artistic director of the Ndlovu Youth Choir said: “For us as a choir, it is important that each project we take on has a strong focus on not only the performance aspect, but that it is an opportunity for us to upskill all our choristers where we can.

“We’re excited with the new direction the choir is taking in not only being a performing arts organisation but now also working in the writing space, creating new and original song content,” said Schmitt.
