M. Night Shyamalan is, slowly but surely, rebuilding his reputation.
After achieving great success with the likes of Signs, The Village, and The Sixth Sense, he produced and/or directed a string of projects that were fairly poorly received.
He’s battled back in the last few years, but none of Split, Servant, or Glass received the acclaim of his early work.
Perhaps Old, which hits US theatres on July 23, will hit those heights again, and another trailer dropped this past weekend.
This from Universal Pictures’ synopsis:
This summer, visionary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan unveils a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.
Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Alex Wolff, and Thomasin McKenzie lead the cast, and I think it’s safe to say there will be a twist somewhere near the end of the film.
The Independent says Old “looks like his best [movie] in 20 years”, and Digital Spy says “it looks like he could have another critical and commercial success on his hands”.
We’ll only know once the movie actually drops, but so far, so good.
