The COVID-19 lockdown restrictions have eased quite considerably in the UK, which means that folks are feeling more comfortable going out and about.
Charles, Prince of Wales, and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, decided to lead the way with a day out full of fun activities.
For Prince Charles, that meant trying his hand at bar work and then drinking his beer with his mask still on.
This took place at one of the UK pubs sharing his title – the Prince of Wales in south London.
Sky News reports that the heir to the throne poured himself a pint of Sambrook’s bitter while behind the bar with Camilla, and pulled up his face mask to enjoy a sip:
Apparently, before sipping the beer he said to his wife, “I think that’s probably enough. Would you say keep going?”
He’s reported to have joked about getting a “free drink” from visiting all the Prince of Wales pubs in the country.
I dunno, I think he has the cash to buy his own.
Landlord Dermot Connell said it was exciting to have “the Prince of Wales coming to the Prince of Wales”, adding: “It’s good that he’s getting out and about and showing people it’s now safe again to be in the pubs.”
Connel added that “he seemed to like it,” when asked if he thought Prince Charles enjoyed the beer.
Charles sure does look delighted (watch from the 2:45 mark):
The rest of the sunny day out for the royal couple included a meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant, a visit to the theatre, a florist, a pet shop, and the local fire department.
Besides the masks, it probably felt pretty close to the good old days before the pandemic.
