There is plenty of amazing content on Netflix that is worth watching.
Also, there is a liberal dose of utter garbage, and that garbage garners views.
We know this because up until a few days ago, Thunder Force was the streaming giant’s most popular release of the year.
That pile of steaming excrement is rocking a 4,4 rating on IMDb, and 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, with one reviewer calling it “altogether incredibly dismal”.
Using Netflix’s Top 10 charts as a metric to measure popularity, Forbes argues that none of the platform’s previous releases “went as viral as Netflix’s latest animated hit. In fact, it could be argued that no movie has ever been this dominant.”
At the time the article was written (two days ago), The Mitchells vs. The Machines had spent 22 days on Netflix’s Top 10 charts. Via a points system based on where the movie appears in the top 10 each day, it’s blazing a trail not yet seen before:
The film kicked off its Netflix run with 14 straight days in the #1 position—a feat only two other movies, Spenser Confidential and Hubie Halloween, has accomplished.
And since, The Mitchells vs. The Machines has spent five more days in the second-place position—and to this day hasn’t fallen below the #3 spot.
Not only is The Mitchells vs. The Machines the top new release for Netflix in 2021, but it might very well be in the midst of the most impressive Top 10 run ever.
… if The Mitchells vs. The Machines can hold on longer than that, then we may witness an absolutely legendary showing that’s never been matched by any other movie on Netflix.
You know you’ve cracked it when BuzzFeed does one of those ‘which character are you’ quizzes.
Let’s see what all the fuss is about:
That trailer was only released on March 31 of this year, and has already amassed more than 26 million views, making it the second most viewed video on the Netflix YouTube account.
The most viewed, posted in June 2018, has 55 million views.
As long as Thunder Force continues to drop down the ranking, I’m happy.
