There are many lessons to learn from the throng of Zoom fails that have been surfacing as viral videos in recent times.
There are the obvious mistakes that one should not make (but still, somehow, do), like appearing nude while the camera is still on, and then there are more subtle things that are easy to forget and fall victim to.
I am sure you recall the “I am not a cat” attorney – shame.
Zoom court, as it has been named, provides endless lessons (and entertaining ones, at that) on how (not) to conduct a Zoom meeting.
The star of Zoom court, making a name on YouTube, is American Judge Jeffrey Middleton.
He started sharing Zoom meetings in April 2020 and has since collected upwards of 13 000 subscribers.
The lesson he’s teaching us today is to remember to change your Zoom screen name before entering the chat because something like “Buttf*cker 3000” just won’t do.
The video shows Middleton dismissing a nincompoop who showed up to his virtual arraignment with that rather uncouth Zoom name.
The video was apparently removed from the judge’s accounts but Twitter managed to memorialise it, which Gizmodo reported on:

Loving how Middleton put him in waiting room jail to think about what he’s done.
The not-so-funny side of it is that Saxaon (the person monikered “Buttf*cker 3000”) later pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanour punishable by a maximum of 90 days of jail and a $500 fine (that’s around R7 000).
There are tons of other interesting misdemeanours playing out in Zoom court that you might want to be aware of:
Other now-Middleton classics include pointing out that you shouldn’t Zoom to court from the driver’s seat of a car when you’re on trial for several traffic violations. (This video has also been removed.)
Also, (not at all humorously) adjourning a hearing after learning that a defendant accused of abuse appeared in the same apartment as the plaintiff.
Other videos include a toilet flushing in the middle of a Supreme Court meeting, “Zoombombers” interrupting a bond hearing with loud porn sounds, and a doctor performing surgery with a bloody mask while in a traffic court meeting.
Middleton has mentioned that the mixture of sloppy home tune-ins has been “profound, and in some cases troubling”.
This man speaks nothing but the truth.
