Leo Prinsloo is in the midst of his 15 minutes of fame.
For his steely resolve under intense pressure, it’s 15 minutes well earned, with a doff of the cap for his colleague, Lloyd Mtombeni.
Given the massive public reaction to Prinsloo and Mtombeni’s skilled cash-in-transit heist avoidance, you’d imagine the former’s handgun training course will be booked up, too.
Yesterday, eNCA journalist Barry Bateman uploaded new footage taken by the front dashcam camera of their chase and shooting incident on April 22.
The footage sheds new light on what transpired that day, reports The Citizen:
…far be it from running from the trouble, Prinsloo was actually the one chasing the attackers, trying to first drive into them and then ram them off the road.
In the new footage, one can now see how he was pursuing the attackers to scare them off their attempt to steal from the cargo van they were escorting, which is understood to have been carrying cellphones…
According to reports, Prinsloo rammed and chased some of the suspects in an Audi into a hotel carpark. They then reportedly ran into a McDonald’s and two AK47s were recovered.
Here’s that new footage via Bateman:

That’s some pretty fearless stuff.
As you can imagine, going viral for something like this does come with a downside, and Prinsloo and his family have now been placed under protective guard.
According to News24, he has received death threats:
Deon Coetzee, the managing director at Fortis Pro-Active Defence Solutions, where Prinsloo works, told News24 they had to assign a protective security detail following the media attention Prinsloo attracted.
“Because of whoever is behind the organised crime, [Prinsloo] has received death threats on his life, so we are just taking it seriously,” said Coetzee.
Prinsloo has previously served in protection teams guarding the likes of Nelson Mandela, the Kardashians (or ‘Kardasians’), and Prince Charles:
You’d have to back him, and his team, to do a pretty decent job.
