Billie Eilish has a very specific style – anything that is oversized and baggy and that says ‘I don’t give a f*** what you think about me’.
She made a point of making this her signature look when she started out at the very young age of 14, and explained in an ad for Calvin Klien in 2019 that it was so that the world wouldn’t be able to comment on her body and sexualise her.
Fair play considering the state of the entertainment industry and its attitude towards women.
Now, at the age of 19, Eilish decided that she is ready to show more. She took full control in a photoshoot for the cover of British Vogue.
As a homage to old Hollywood, she is dressed in lingerie, inspired by vintage pinups like Betty Brosmer and photography by Elmer Batters, which featured models in stockings.
We’ll show you soon enough, but first, we’ll let her speak.
Via The Guardian, Eilish spoke to Vogue about body positivity and the prevalence of the sexual exploitation of women in the industry, saying, “I don’t know one girl or woman who hasn’t had a weird experience or a really bad experience”.
She also spoke about the story behind her new single, ‘Your Power’, which addresses an abusive relationship between a minor and an older person:
“It doesn’t matter who you are, what your life is, your situation, who you surround yourself with, how strong you are, how smart you are. You can always be taken advantage of. That’s a big problem in the world of domestic abuse or statutory rape – girls that were very confident and strong-willed finding themselves in situations where they’re like, ‘oh my god, I’m the victim here?’ And it’s so embarrassing and humiliating and demoralising to be in that position of thinking you know so much and then you realise, I’m being abused right now.”
You can listen to that track here:
This is not the first time she tackled the issue of women being overly sexualised. In March last year she made an onstage statement about body-shaming.
Without further ado, here’s the cover photo:

Eilish on the shoot:
“Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take away any respect from you,” she said. “It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, fuck it. If you feel like you look good, you look good.”
Well said.
