Another day, another example of a man who allegedly turns violent after having his advances rejected.

In South Africa, this is all too common, with patrons at News Café in Rosebank on Friday forced to flee as a 33-year-old man attempted to crash his car into the restaurant.

According to information via the Rosebank Management District, he “tried to drive his car into the News Café after being denied entry by the bouncers. He reportedly arrived there to see his ex-girlfriend who did not want to see him.”

Thankfully, for those inside the restaurant, and particularly those outside in the smoking section, cars parked in the road prevented him from reaching the restaurant itself.

TimesLIVE reports:

Gauteng police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo said the man was arrested on Friday and will make his first court appearance on Monday morning at Hillbrow magistrate’s court.

Masondo said the man was charged with reckless and negligent driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

News Café sent out this statement on Friday night:

Others who were in attendance that night shared their accounts:

The eyewitness above stated that the man “initially got into a scuffle with the bouncers,” before a waiter pushed patrons out of the way and said “this guy is about to drive into the restaurant,” which he attempted twice.

That same account added that in the second attempt, “he tried to drive into the side of the restaurant where the smoking section is and was literally blocked by the cars parked in the street. If it wasn’t for the cars he probably would’ve been successful in driving in.”

Unconfirmed reports suggest the woman was a waitress at the cafe:

At the time of writing, it is not yet known whether the man has appeared in court today.
