The 93rd Academy Awards were held at Los Angeles’ historic Union Station, and were not without COVID-19 restrictions.

As per usual, there was a red carpet and celebs in ball gowns, but only nominees, their guests, and presenters were allowed to attend following rigorous testing and quarantining.

I know what it takes just to get dressed for the red carpet, never mind also taking all that time for pandemic safety.

Alright, we won’t keep you waiting any longer.

A massive round of applause for the best picture winner goes to Nomadland (pictured above), which was nominated alongside The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Frances McDormand from Nomadland also won the best actress category.

Many thought that Chadwick Boseman would win best actor for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but Anthony Hopkins, who starred in The Father, took the statue for his unparalleled performance of a man losing his memory.

For South Africans, the big news was My Octopus Teacher winning best documentary feature – you can watch that moment here.
