If the 420 celebrations shared on South Africa’s Twittersphere wasn’t enough of a story about the imbibing of cannabis, then listen up for this one about Ellen DeGeneres being high as a kite while her wife had a medical emergency.
She told Jimmy Kimmel, during an appearance on his show, how she had three “weed drinks” before bed, only to then find herself driving her wife, Portia de Rossi, to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery on her appendix.
It sounds like a situation that would induce more paranoia than laughs for a high person, but DeGeneres simply took it in her stride.
Her wife wasn’t feeling too grand that night and so she went to bed early.
DeGeneres, on the other hand, on top of the three CBD drinks, said she also swallowed two melatonin sleeping pills before bed.
Via HuffPost, the scene unfolds:
“I realize she’s not in bed. I said, ‘Are you OK? Baby, are you OK?’” DeGeneres explained.
“She’s moaning. I get out of bed and she’s on the ground on all fours. I said, ‘You’re not OK.’ She goes, ‘I’m OK.’ I said, ‘No, unless you’re playing Twister by yourself, you’re not OK.’ So I rushed her to the emergency room.”
Kimmel questioned DeGeneres ability to drive in her condition, but she said her adrenaline had kicked in so she could manage.
I just hope everyone was strapped in for that ride, at least.
Thankfully, de Rossi was fine in the end and even cracked a few jokes to get more painkillers, DeGeneres said.
Here’s the whole video. DeGeneres starts talking about “pot” from the 3:30 mark:
Granted, she is hilarious, but many employees at The Ellen DeGeneres Show have said that working for her is anything but a fun time.
