Just in time for Earth Day (that’s today, April 22), which honestly should be every day, we have two recent videos of people getting very excited about spotting majestic flurries of sea creatures.
One video is of a drone pilot showing us a fever of cownose rays at Australia’s Bondi Beach.
Yes, the collective noun for sea rays is a ‘fever’.
The other is of some seafarers squealing at the sight of dolphins and whales in a feeding frenzy just off Fish Hoek beach
As per Nerdist, the drone pilot in Australia, named only as Jason, shot the rare footage while he was working for the Drone Shark App company that warns beachgoers of any dangers.
It’s a good thing Jason was watching the “absolute beauties” from a distance because sea rays can be dangerous, too, as their “venomous, barbed tails, which are less cute than the rays’ faces, can be fatal”:
From last week, via Cape Town Etc, here’s the video filmed off our coast:
A lovely look at some deep-sea treasures at a time when we possibly need it the most, and this is the kind of footage that should really make you want to save our seas.
How could we not? Just look at those stunning fevers and pods…
