Hello and welcome to another Thursday, with me, the person who writes these things.
Not exactly riveting commentary, but that’s why I’m not on the telly.
Andrew Cotter is a Scottish sports broadcaster, although, over the past 12 months, he’s become famous right around the world due to Olive and Mabel, his two labradors.
Starting his videos when the world went into lockdown, Cotter’s commentary of footage featuring his dogs was an instant hit.
The first video went out on YouTube on March 28, 2020, with this brief description:
I usually broadcast actual sport: The Olympics, Wimbledon, The Masters, 6 Nations, that sort of thing. But sport has disappeared for a while, so here instead are Olive and Mabel eating their breakfast.
Doesn’t sound like much fun, but Cotter is an expert narrator, and his hounds are pretty skilled at what they do, too.
One has to appreciate the spirit of the game and the swapping of the bowls. Great touch.
In late April, this gem came out:
You’ll be pleased to know the duo are still at it, with this video released last month.
Olive and Mabel have upskilled to card school, where they take great enjoyment in humiliating their owner:
They’re great, he’s great, and I am a fan.
Cotter has even gone on to write a book, Olive, Mabel and Me: Life and Adventures with Two Very Good Dogs, telling “the full story of their unexpected rise to internet stardom, their lives together, how the dogs are dealing with their new-found fame (celebrity fans, more offers of biscuits etc), and how trips to the beaches and the mountains help them all find peace and happiness away from a hectic world.”
You can find all of Olive and Mabel’s videos here.
