Some South Africans Went Hard On 420

50 years ago, five Californian students used 420 as a code to mean meeting up to smoke weed, and now every year on April 20, the world lights up with them.

We have the Waldos, a group of five students at San Rafael High School in California, to thank for the term ‘420’.

50 years ago, they used 420 as a code to mean meeting up to smoke weed, and now every year on April 20, the world lights up with them.

Whilst there is still a long way to go in terms of legalising cannabis in this country, it has been decriminalised for personal and private use, and the government says it has grand plans for South Africa’s industry going forward.
