It’s been a helluva week, and it’s only Tuesday.
A few things we have learnt already here in the Cape – our firefighter are underappreciated heroes, there is still a solid sense of ubuntu as people have come together to help how they can, and we haven’t yet seen the last of the summer heat.
Temperatures are set to cool as the week progresses, but Sunday reached into the mid-30s, and the weekend as a whole was dry and hot.
Far be it from us to tell you how to get your coffee kicks, but if you’re looking for the tastiest combination of caffeine and refreshment, we should at least let you know about cold brew coffee.
And no, this is not the same thing as iced coffee.
Unlike regular coffee, used to make iced coffee, cold brew is never exposed to heat. Cold brew uses time, rather than heat, to extract the coffee’s oils, sugars, and caffeine.
Because of the difference in the brewing process, hot-brewed coffee tends to taste more bitter and acidic than cold brew, even if it’s made with the same beans.
The lower levels of bitterness in a cold brew also make it less likely to cause heartburn, for you poor sods who suffer from that affliction.
Flavour that cold brew with some South African favourites, like honeybush, lemon, or marula, and you’re onto a winning formula.
Terbodore Coffee’s range of Sparkling Cold Brew ticks all of the boxes. It’s made from their famous Great Dane blend using carbonated mountain spring water, and all three flavours are low-calorie, if you’re keeping an eye on such things.
The dry Sparkling Cold Brew: Honeybush and Orange has a dash of citrus to accentuate the honeybush flavour, whereas the Sparkling Cold Brew: Lemonade is a little zestier and a real thirst quencher.
Third, but not least, is Sparkling Cold Brew: Marula, with just a hint of the iconic and always popular South African fruit.
My personal preference for necking these delights is for that sweet lunchtime pick-me-up, or as a refreshing alternative to an energy drink.
For those who want to stick with the tried and tested coffee capsules, but want to spice it up a little, Terbodore has also just released their very popular limited edition Salted Caramel flavour in capsule form.
This coffee features traditional caramel loaded with buttery smooth notes and the unexpected boldness of sea salt, and all you have to do is pop the capsule into your machine.
The pods are 100% biodegradable, biobased, and guaranteed to degrade in 14 to 16 weeks, as opposed to the average pod, which can take up to 300 years to degrade.
Throw a few of those into the cart, and have them delivered to your door like a pro.
Terbodore also stocks beans, equipment, merchandise, groceries, and more, for those who want to browse the full range.
Just be sure to give those Sparkling Cold Brews a shot, as summer winds down and we start hauling out the heaters.
