Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, and Facebook’s new speed video dating app are all like a local bar for ‘normal’ people, compared to the dating app Raya, which is star-studded and as exclusive as the Oscars.

Raya is the dating app for the rich and famous; an “online membership-community for dating, networking, and making new friends” as it describes itself.

You don’t simply set up a dating profile and start hanging out with celebs like Channing Tatum, Sharon Stone, Harry Styles, Cara Delevingne, Zach Braff, and Alexander Wang.

According to The Tab, you can only join via a ‘friend pass’ which is by invite only from someone who is already on the app, or you can go through a “multi-faceted” application process, which includes a thorough background check.

You’ll have to provide a detailed job description and your Instagram credentials, so your content and follower count can be checked.

Basically, you must give off an elitist vibe.

It is the most exclusive and private dating app out there, naturally.

There are reportedly 100 000 people on the waiting list (according to The Daily Mail) of which roughly eight percent will be accepted.

Your chances of being accepted into Raya are lower than that of applicants trying to attend the University of Oxford, says The New York Times.

Did you doubt that it costs a fair penny to join?

At $6 a month, or around R85, you can get swiping rights to the crème de la crème.

If you do happen to get accepted, there are a few rules for privacy, which is a major selling point for the app.

You can’t take screenshots or share private information about the users. If you do, your profile will be banned.

Don’t lose out on getting a drink with Owen Wilson just because you shared Matthew Perry’s pickup line with friends.

Raya further one-up’s the other dating apps by showing users from all over the world.

Vogue writes:

Rather than being restricted to dating within your neighborhood, like the commoners of Tinder, Raya’s users are global citizens—in a special bicoastal club.

People on Raya don’t take the subway; they fly to meet each other. Or at least, that’s the impression the app wants to give off.

The private plane is not the only thing waiting to get started. Once there’s a match, you have 10 days to message each other before the match runs out and you can’t contact the other person again.
