It’s only Wednesday, so you must have a tissue lying around, right?
Well, you’ll need it for this heartwarming display of animal friendship and survival.
The video shows a Staffie named Jessie saving her Pomeranian friend, Chucky, from almost drowning in a swimming pool last Friday.
Chucky was trotting past the pool at their Boksburg home when he suddenly fell in, and being too small to use the steps as leverage, swam around for a good while trying to figure out his escape.
Then Jessie appeared to save the day.
After more than 30 minutes of Chucky swimming from edge to edge and Jessie following, trying to work it all out, Jessie finally hauled him out with her teeth.
You can see the moment the rescue happens from around the 3:15 mark.
Top tip: put the video on mute if you don’t want the sad music making you extra emotional:
The family, Byron and Melissa Thanarayen, were totally oblivious to the whole ordeal while it happened.
However, they did think something was a bit strange when Chucky was walking around with a wet head and a dry body.
TimesLIVE reports that the family were confused because the dogs don’t swim unsupervised:
“We tried to look for clues as to where he could have wet his head. We thought maybe he dipped his head in the water, but there was no mess in the house to support this suggestion,” he told TimesLIVE.
Melissa had a hunch that it was definitely related to the pool.
After checking the security camera footage, they were shocked to find out exactly what had happened.
The family are so grateful for Jessie, their rescue dog adopted four years ago from the SPCA in Boksburg:
“Jessie is the best dog we have ever had,” he said, adding they were her third owners as previous owners who adopted her had to return her to the SPCA.
“They said she didn’t get along with their other dogs, but I have not experienced this. She got along with our other two dogs from the word go,” he said.
The rescued rescue, huh?
And don’t worry, the family will be installing a pool cover immediately.
