As a nation, we clearly struggle to curb our anger on the roads.
For every road rage story we write, there are countless other headlines we see, but this incident coming out of the Durban suburb of Newlands West from last Wednesday afternoon is particularly ugly.
TimesLIVE reports that there were three cars involved in the accident, one of which was an ambulance, with injured patients dragged from the vehicle and assaulted.
Advanced life support paramedic Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene at around 1:45PM:
“They were assisting one of the parties involved in the accident when another party became violent and hostile. They started assaulting the paramedics and pulling the patients who were involved in the accident out of the ambulance to assault them.
“Paramedics then called for police and private security officers to assist them. Metro police were already dispatched to the accident. VIP sent their Swat team to assist our medics. They arrived on the scene and calmed the situation.”
As far as road rage attacks go, this one is pretty abominable:

Jamieson said that three patients were taken to a nearby hospital, and treated for injuries related to the collision and the assault.
In addition, one of the paramedics was reported to have suffered minor injuries.
There is no word on whether criminal charges have been laid by any of the parties involved.
