The Ndlovu Youth Choir might have missed out on the top prize on America’s Got Talent, but that hasn’t stopped them from doing big things.
I’m particularly fond of their take on the ‘Jerusalema’ Dance Challenge’, which took the country by storm last year.
A quick search on YouTube will take you to countless videos of the choir performing great hits, from Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’, to a song encouraging everyone to get behind the physical distancing and sanitising protocols in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Sure, you could watch them on YouTube – it’s always a great pick-me-up at the end of a long week – or you can watch them via live stream at the upcoming Africa Rising concert.
On Sunday, April 25, ‘Jerusalema’ hitmaker Master KG (yep, this just got even better) and the Ndlovu Youth Choir will be performing live on Robben Island for Africa Rising and the Live Love non-profit.
I’m hoping that there will be some sort of mashup between the original ‘Jerusalema’ track and the choir’s version of it.
You can watch the performance for free, but audiences will also have the opportunity to win an exclusive VIP experience at the event on Robben Island by making an online donation of at least R30, benefiting the music and events industry, and charities in sustainability, education, and conservation.
The details, if you’re keen to take it in:
That’s good feelings on top of good feelings.
I’ll leave you with one of my favourite Ndlovu Youth Choir performances. Happy Friday!
