There’s a big difference between ‘island’ and ‘private island’.
For example, this island in the Bahamas qualifies as a private island, because you can scream at the top of your lungs and nobody will hear you.
That’s meant in a good way, not a creepy way.
I don’t think the same can be said for Lady Hamilton Island, located within the prestigious Royal Alfred Marina in Port Alfred.
Sure, it’s a private island in that you can own it and it’s private property, but even with that row of trees hemming you in, there’s an element of being on display.
Then again, you’re likely to be getting the island for a far kinder price than the Bahamas beauty, with bidding on the 3 863 m² plot of land starting tomorrow at R3,4 million.
The Pam Golding listing shows it’s a bit of a fixer-upper, but some elbow grease could yet turn things around:
[It] boasts incredible potential to the discerning home-buyer looking to build their own private retreat. The epitome of coastal tranquility, it is completely surrounded by the calm tidal canals of this luxurious and upmarket estate.
Situated within walking distance of Port Alfred’s East Beach, the Island is accessible by boat. Complete with two private deep water jetties, a small cottage, tennis court and swimming pool, it also offers a well established tree-filled garden.
The Royal Alfred Marina, developed 30 years ago, continues to be one of Port Alfred’s most sought-after real estate investments. This is a one-of-a-kind lifestyle opportunity.
Get the drones out, and let’s do this right:
I’d suggest you bring along a quality weed whacker.
If you are so inclined, you can make a bid here, but you’ll need to put down a refundable R25 000 deposit.
Happy island shopping.
