Ridiculous Entry For Goal Of The Year Will Take Some Beating [Video]

Cremonese defender Michele Castagnetti's goal, a one-touch strike from well within his own half, is an early contender for the FIFA Puskás Award.

The screenshot above is terrible quality, but the same cannot be said of the hit by Cremonese defender Michele Castagnetti.

During his side’s Serie B clash against Virtus Entella on Monday night, Castagnetti absolutely leathered one from well inside his own half, following a clearance by Virtus Entella goalkeeper Alessandro Russo.

Usually, you might take a touch, wait for your forward line to get onside, and build from the back, but Castagnetti had other ideas.

A single touch, right back where it came from, and over a flailing Russo and into the net.

If this had come in a more high-profile match, like Erik Lamela’s ridiculous rabona in the North London derby, for example, you’d say it would be a shoo-in for goal of the year:

Hopefully, for Castagnetti’s sake, somebody has some high-res footage of the goal.

That above, and this video, are the best we can find at the moment:

Those angles from around the 30-second mark just add another layer of excellence.

Cremonese’s 2-0 win took them to 14th in Serie B,  whilst Virtus Entella remains rooted to the foot of the table in 20th.
