Coffee is, for many of us, the only thing standing in the way of a foul mood, and an unproductive morning, especially when the weekend is over and it’s back to the grind.
But as you sip that glorious first cup, you’ve no doubt had a coworker or friend gazing smugly at you over their green tea, armed with a diatribe about how it’s far healthier.
The debate has raged on since time immemorial, and it’s time to set it to rest
Healthline was kind enough to throw together the info we need to do just that.
Caffeine
Caffeine has a number of health benefits attached to it, including increased energy levels, alertness, attention, wakefulness, enhanced exercise performance, and mood improvement. Some studies have also linked it to brain health, reducing the risk of dementia.
Coffee provides three times the amount of caffeine as green tea. So, while you shouldn’t go wild and drink six cups of joe a day, you’re going to need to drink more green tea if you want to reap the benefits of one cup of coffee.
Antioxidants
Coffee and green tea are both loaded with antioxidants, which help you lose weight. Green tea gets a point for L-theanine which can promote a calm, alert mental state.
They’re both particularly rich in a group of antioxidants called polyphenols.
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and chlorogenic acid (CGA) are the most common polyphenols in green tea and coffee. Studies have shown that they may have potent anti-cancer effects.
Coffee is the better option if you’re after increased alertness or improved physical performance.
Downsides of both coffee and green tea
This has less to do with the actual drinks and more to do with how you prepare them. Adding sugar, creamers, and flavoured syrups can compromise some of the health benefits that you would normally enjoy if your coffee or tea maintained its integrity.
Determining which is better really comes down to your personal preferences, but that’s beside the point.
The real takeaway here is that you’re now armed with the knowledge you need to take down smug tea drinkers.
While you’re enjoying your coffee, savouring those health benefits, and your victory, why not kick that good feeling up a notch?
If you choose the right brand, you can contribute to the health of the planet as well.
Terbodore’s coffee pods are 100% biodegradable, biobased, and guaranteed to degrade in 14 to 16 weeks. They’re also working with 4WKS pods as one of their coffee roasters.
The packaging is pretty easy on the eyes as well:
The average pod can take up to 300 years to degrade, so this is revolutionary.
If you prefer to brew your coffee with freshly roasted beans, Terbodore’s packaging is 100% plant-based and recyclable.
Pop the Revival Blend into your cart, and a percentage of your purchase will also be donated to local community initiatives.
Stock up online via Terbodore’s website.
If you were still on the fence in the coffee versus green tea debate, I reckon that just pushed coffee into first place.
