Apologies if you thought you might make it through a day without reading anything about the fallout from the Harry and Meghan interview with Oprah.
A week later, and the machine rumbles on.
But this is what the people want – heroes, villains, royal drama, and intrigue, because ribbon cutting is downright boring and a waste of taxpayer money.
French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo is not the sort of publication to hold back, and for this past Saturday’s issue, the front page was adorned with a cartoon of Meghan and Her Royal Highness.
Spoiler alert – the relationship depicted is far less rosy than in the image above, with the headline reading “Why Meghan Quit Buckingham”.
In the cartoon, Meghan is saying “Because I couldn’t breathe anymore!”
The George Floyd reference is clear, so I don’t think we need to unpack that one much further.
Ironically, both Meghan and Harry went out of their way to praise the Queen for being welcoming during the Oprah interview, and clarified that the now infamous discussion around the colour of Archie’s skin didn’t involve her or Prince Philip.
Given his history, that did need clarifying.
The magazine has been widely criticised for the above cartoon, but that’s nothing new.
Other than a brief official statement from the Queen, and Prince William’s denial of racism within the Royal Family during a public appearance last Thursday, there has been silence from official royal channels.
Sadly, that will not stop the ‘inside sources’ and ‘palace insiders’ from providing a running commentary, no matter how ill-informed they may be.
