On Friday afternoon, a vehicle with two occupants plunged off Chapman’s Peak.
Tragically, a 55-year-old woman died, whilst the other occupant, a male, was airlifted to hospital and is said to be fighting for his life.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, a case of culpable homicide has been opened, with the circumstances surrounding this incident under investigation.
News24 spoke with Community Crime Prevention executive director Keri Cross, who said the victims were a married couple, whilst traffic services spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout said a witness “reported the vehicle had plunged 200m down an embankment”.
Hout Bay residents were alerted to the accident when a number of rescue services responded:

Arrive Alive shared further details of the crash, along with additional images:
On arrival on scene, the CMR [Cape Medical Response] paramedic, ambulance crew, NSRI and Fire & Rescue all were able to access the vehicle down the side of the mountain…
All crew on scene began attending to the adult male patient. Both of the occupants were trapped in the vehicle and were mechanically extricated. The adult male patient was airlifted by Air Mercy Service (AMS) up to the road to a waiting Netcare911 ambulance. He was transported to a local Cape Town hospital for further care. The helicopter returned to the scene to airlift the deceased female occupant to the roadside for transport.
Whilst there hasn’t been confirmation on this front, it’s believed that the two occupants of the vehicle are tourists.
