MacKenzie Scott (formerly Bezos) isn’t the richest woman in the world, but she did come out of the divorce from Jeff with some spare change.
When news first broke that Jeff and MacKenzie were officially splitting up, many thought that it would see her surpass L’Oréal heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers as the top of the list of the world’s richest woman.
Bettencourt Meyers has kept that title to this day and shows no signs of letting it go.
Scott clearly has no interest in the title.
She has moved on and married again, according to The Wall Street Journal, and she seems to have gone from the richest man in the world to the other end of the wealth spectrum.
The lucky man is Dan Jewett, a science teacher at a Seattle private school, Lakeside School, that her kids attend.
Judging by his haircut, she clearly has a ‘type’.
Unlike her former husband, who seems somewhat reluctant to part with his wealth, Scott has dedicated herself to philanthropic efforts benefiting women-led charities, food banks, and Black colleges, among other institutions. She has given away more than $4 billion of her fortune so far.
In a post on her page on Bill and Melinda Gates’ Giving Pledge website, for billionaires who have promised to donate most of their fortune to those in need, her new husband signed on his commitment to her efforts.
“It is strange to be writing a letter indicating I plan to give away the majority of my wealth during my lifetime, as I have never sought to gather the kind of wealth required to feel like saying such a thing would have particular meaning,” Mr. Jewett’s post says.
“In a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others.”
Scott and Jewett are both Princeton University graduates and met while working at a hedge fund in New York.
Bezos was nice about the marriage, wishing both of them the best through an Amazon spokesperson.
