Looks like we made it, look how far we’ve come together.
Or don’t, because you just came here to see some trailers to add to your watchlist, or scratch off it, going forward.
I can respect that, so let’s get down to business.
The first of our four trailers is The Serpent, an eight-part series that will air on Netflix from April 2.
Let’s get the basics via Town & Country:
The Serpent tackles the story of Charles Sobhraj, a French criminal and serial killer who went on a crime spree in Thailand, Nepal, and India in 1975 and 1976, which would make him Interpol’s most wanted man.
Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim plays Sobhraj, while Jenna Coleman—best known to Town & Country readers as Victoria’s titular queen—portrays his girlfriend Marie-Andrée Leclerc.
The merciless killer preyed on travellers exploring the “hippie trail” of South Asia, so if that’s on your bucket list, proceed with caution.
May as well rewatch The Beach, while you’re at it.
Next up is Thunder Force, also via Netflix, starring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer.
Not to be a hater, but it looks like McCarthy’s steady comedic decline from the lofty heights of Bridesmaids has continued, but maybe you’ll be a fan.
This from Variety:
The trailer sees Lydia (McCarthy) reunite with her childhood best friend, Emily Stanton (Spencer), a successful scientist that has created technology that grants ordinary people superpowers. After being told not to touch anything, McCarthy accidentally takes the only formula for super strength, unwillingly creating the first real-life superhero team. When a new villain known as “The King” (Bobby Cannavale) arrives in town, it’s up to the Thunder Force to step up and save Chicago from the wretches of evil.
The only thing I can say in its defence is that it features Jason Bateman as the Crab Man, which is a superhero-esque name I can get behind.
That’s dropping on April 9.
If action movies are more up your alley, you may enjoy Without Remorse, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video on April 30.
The movie is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by Tom Clancy, and a spin-off of the Jack Ryan film series.
It stars Michael B. Jordan, with more from Amazon Prime:
The film tells the origin story of John Kelly (aka John Clark), a U.S. Navy SEAL, who uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife by Russian soldiers.
When Kelly joins forces with fellow SEAL Karen Greer and shadowy CIA agent Robert Ritter, the mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war.
Trailer time:
These sorts of movies usually feature the main character walking calmly away from a car engulfed in flames. Interesting twist.
Alright, we have arrived at our fourth and final Friday trailer, although this one is just a teaser.
Zombie fans, unite, because Netflix will be releasing Army of the Dead on May 21.
Fear not, I’m sure there will be more teaser trailers and actual trailers and promo clips and snippets in the months to come.
Anyway, this is something of a zombie/heist movie crossover, and is directed by Zack Snyder, reports CNET:
It’s about a group of mercenaries planning a Las Vegas casino heist during a zombie apocalypse…
The trailer shows a now desolate Las Vegas overrun by a massive horde of zombies. In true Vegas style, we even see an Elvis impersonator in the undead crowd. We also get a glimpse of star Dave Bautista and and his team taking on zombies with some serious firepower, while Matthias Schweighofer’s character sports the classic baseball bat covered in nails.
Is it even a movie involving Las Vegas if someone doesn’t use this line?
We may never know.
Here’s our first look:
I am sceptical of movies with former professional wrestlers in lead roles, and I remain so.
That’s it.
If you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, you may consider The Terror.
