Police in Karachi, Pakistan, decided to try something a little different when it comes to taking down criminals committing street crimes or harassing people on sidewalks.
Instead of tackling the chase on foot, they’ll be rollerblading.
While at first glance this might seem like a terrible idea, it’s worth noting that France has had cops on rollerblades for the past two years and it seems to be working out great.
Granted the streets in Pakistan are less pristine, but I’m sure the officers can handle it.
Via The Current, Farrukh Ali, chief of the unit training to ‘blade’, says that they “felt we needed to come up with an innovative approach to control street crime”.
“This is just the beginning,” said Aneela Aslam, a policewoman on the unit.
“This rollerblading will really benefit us. With this training, we can reach narrow alleys very quickly where it is usually difficult to go.”
Here’s a look at the training:
The internet has not been kind, especially this guy:
This is fantastically stupid. Watch these dorks. https://t.co/vFUjtIuIe9

He would probably change his tune if he was being chased by someone on rollerblades with a handgun drawn.
The rollerblading police are set to patrol the streets from next month, and a few have already been stationed at Karachi’s busy beachfront
“Seeing them here in clean uniforms since the morning gives us a sense of security, as even in daytime, snatchings occur here,” said pedestrian Muhammad Azeem.
Glock and roll.
Sorry, I had to.
While we’re on the topic of Pakistan, let’s take a moment to acknowledge 28-year-old Usman Khan, who has gone viral for his impersonations of Charlie Chaplin.
“I wanted to become a comic artist,” Khan tells VICE, referring to his childhood aspirations. “Now, whenever I leave home for a performance, I shut the door of my own worries.”
Here he is:
