Nobody has ever bounded gleefully over to the kitchen sink to do the dishes or counted the minutes until they could break out the broom for a good old fashioned sweep.
These are things that we do because the alternative is living in a trash palace.
But, I’ve found that housework and other mundane tasks can be significantly improved with a podcast, and especially one that doesn’t make you feel like what you’re doing is cutting into your TV time.
CNET kindly rounded up a few of the best podcasts in production at the moment, and while you’re welcome to go through all of them, the five below stood out as real winners.
Fake Doctors, Real Friends
If you’ve been meaning to rewatch Scrubs, you’ll love this podcast hosted by Zach Braff and Donald Faison, who play JD and Turk in the show.
Each episode goes over an episode of the show, in order, adding another layer to the joy.
Nice White Parents
Two minutes into this podcast and I was hooked, which is unsurprising seeing as it comes from the same people who brought us Serial.
It’s a five-part series on the US education system – a description that doesn’t do it justice – which looks at how socio-economics affects who gets the upper hand in education.
Bill Gates and Rashida Jones Ask Big Questions
Yes, that Bill Gates, and yes, the actress who played Anne on Parks and Recreation.
The unlikely pair have teamed up to do what the title says – ask big questions like “why do we believe lies?” and “can people really change?”.
Making Space: The Female Frontier
If you read the site you know that I’m obsessed with all things space-related (much to the annoyance of everyone around me), so I was obviously going to throw this in.
From the early days of the space race to the greatest scientific breakthroughs of our generation, women have always played a vital, if often overlooked, role in the history of space discovery.
Hopefully, other space nerds out there will get a kick out of it.
Office Ladies
Fans of The Office (US), can rewatch the show with Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela), who go over their memories and fun behind the scenes details, episode by episode.
They also bring in special guests now and then like John Krasinski and Greg Daniels, who adapted the show from its UK original.
Happy listening! I hope this makes the boring stuff on your to-do list a little more tolerable.
