Planning a day out during a pandemic comes with its own unique set of issues.
Once you’ve done the standard back and forth with your partner – “what do you feel like doing?”… “I don’t know what you feel like doing?” – you soon realise that your options are limited.
There are only so many times that you can take a physically distanced stroll along the promenade before it gets boring.
If you’re stuck for ideas, and in search of an ‘aha moment’, consider this a helpful reminder that we live in a part of the world that is famous for its wine farms.
A wine farm is in many ways the ideal place to spend a day out. They’re airy and open, which makes physical distancing easier, and now, with the current regulations, a spot to try out a few wines, and leave with a bottle or two to round off the weekend at home.
Wine tasting is a given but unlike some other farms, Anthonij Rupert Wyne also offers a range of distinct wine tasting experiences, and spots to enjoy an excellent meal and a spectacular high tea.
If you’re keen to make a day of it, start with a brekkie at the Terra del Capo Tasting Room:
From there, you may want to take in the historic mid-nineteenth-century Cape Dutch Manor House or pay a visit to The Franschhoek Motor Museum for a look back at more than 100 years of motoring history with its unique and exciting collection of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and memorabilia.
After a spot of high tea – you can drink actual tea if you’re pacing yourself, or one of the decadent L’Ormarins range of Cap Classique wines – round things off by heading back to Terra del Capo to sample some of the wine farm’s Italian-inspired wines, and sit down to an incredible lunch.
Take a tour of that fine establishment, which includes a shop with a few goodies that you’ll want to pick up while you’re there:

There is also an Italian Cheese and Wine Tasting presented by one of the Tasting Room assistants, who will take you through a cheese tasting, share information about how the cheeses have been made and their places of origin.
If you can’t make it out to the Anthonij Rupert Wyne estate, you can always recreate the experience at home by ordering a few bottles from their vast range of premium wine online.
They’ll deliver it to your door.
All you have to do then is add your own cheese and crackers.
