We all think we’ve had that million-dollar idea, but very few people end up turning that idea into a business or product.
I have an idea for a toilet that weighs you before and after you… you know what, never mind.
It sounded better after a few drinks around a braai.
One man who does have experience building businesses, having learned some valuable and hard lessons over the past 20 years, is South African Nic Haralambous.
That’s him up top, and he’s clearly pretty stoked about the release of his new book, How to Start a Side Hustle: A playbook for a new economy.
You can find more information on the book, as well as details on how to buy it, here.
That’s just one part of the story, though, because Haralambous has also launched the Slow Fund.
He detailed his reasons for doing so in this blog post:
How to Start a Side Hustle deals with what I call the Side Hustle M.I.L.E:
Mindset, Ideas, Lifestyle, Effort
But the book doesn’t deal with securing a little bit of seed money to kickstart your side hustle and get you over your fear of failure. That’s what the Slow Fund is going to do.
Here’s the deal – starting on February 15, 2021, every day for a year the Slow Fund is going to give one person R1 000 and a 30-minute coaching call with me to talk them through their idea and the use of funds.
As long as there is more money in the Slow Fund then we’ll push on and fund side hustles.
That means that as many as 365 small businesses could get a shot in the arm cash-wise, and some priceless advice, over the next year.
Haralambous says that in just over three weeks, they’ve had more than 9 200 applications, with the cash giveaways and winning side hustles having started on Monday.
Yoco has also come on board, and is contributing a Yoco Go machine to each side hustle, and Bridgement has joined to offer a R20 000 business loan once a quarter to one selected side hustle.
Winners also receive a 20% discount to Haralambous’ side hustle course, and will be added to the Hustle List to help promote their side hustles.
If you want to donate to the Slow Fund, you can do so here.
If you want to enter your side hustle into the competition, you’ll find the details you need here.
Finally, if you’re after the wisdom the book can offer, you can order here.
Hustle away.
