Jared Leto had some big shoes to fill following Heath Ledger’s depiction of the iconic DC villain Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
He did okay in Suicide Squad, even though it was an abomination of a film. He also made an appearance in Birds of Prey, a better film, and now it looks like he’ll be creeping people out in the upcoming Zack Snyder cut of Justice League.
Snyder himself has to up his game because Justice League, which originally screened in 2017, was effectively DC’s answer to The Avengers and it didn’t really hold up.
Ben Affleck as Batman still makes me cringe.
Snyder left the film’s production early on and therefore didn’t get a chance to put his mark on it, until this year when HBO Max offered to let him complete his original vision of the film, only he decided to add something that he only conceptualised later.
“The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect,” Snyder tells Vanity Fair. “But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”
Joker was supposed to come into conflict with Batman in a later project, but when he was given the chance to redo the film, he asked for additional photography to fit Joker into the four-hour cut, debuting March 18.
Snyder released a couple of photos of the character ahead of the release, one of which you can see above.

Stick around until the end for a first look at Joker onscreen:
Sufficiently creepy enough to offset the fact that Ben Affleck is still Batman.
