My desire to head to the V&A Waterfront, even when there isn’t a pandemic hanging around, is pretty slim.
Still, you have to feel for the businesses operating in what was once a tourist hub, many of which were just showing signs of bouncing back before the December lockdown put the boot in once more.
It certainly doesn’t help matters that a group of youngsters, at least one of whom was wielding a knife, were involved in ugly clashes on Saturday, with one male wounded after being stabbed in the back.
Here’s IOL:
The incident was captured on video which shows a group of young men arguing before one person, who appears to be holding a large knife, starts chasing his unknown companions.
Onlookers can be heard screaming as the group spreads out to evade the knifeman. On social media, a number of people questioned why there was no visible security presence.
Footage of the attack was shared on social media, with these two videos the most widely seem:

The V&A Waterfront head of public relations, Donald Kau, said yesterday that ER24 attended to the stab victim, who was later taken home by his family.
He also defended the level of security present, after criticism online:
“The V&A manages a comprehensive security operation with security personnel on foot, motorbikes and vehicles including armed and fast response as well as CCTV and other measures. This is an isolated incident and we’ve immediately increased personnel on the weekend to monitor the situation,” said Kau.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said no charges had been laid by anybody involved in the attack.
