Ja, no, hey, look, basically the boys gave it 110% and I’m really proud of the boys, hey, ja.
Basically every rugby post-match captain interview in a nutshell.
(Don’t get me started on Quinton de Kock’s post-match interviews.)
We’re used to the cliches that are trotted out time and time again, but following Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas’ victory in the opening round of the Australian Open, he seemed lost for words.
Tsitsipas, ranked fifth in the world, destroyed former world number six Gilles Simon 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, in just 92 minutes, but he was far less certain in front of the microphone.
Speaking in his second language, Tsitsipas came off as rather arrogant, which led to boos from the crowd, before realising his mistake and trying to recover:
The interview finished with Tsitsipas being asked about his opponent in the next round, Thanasi Kokkinakis, who Tsitsipas knows well:
Tsitsipas: “He’s a really nice guy, but that won’t matter on the court.”
Courier: “You just keep digging a hole my man, you just keep digging.”
Tsitsipas and Kokkinakis meet tomorrow, so it remains to be seen who has the last laugh.
Following his on-court display, the Greek took to Instagram and went full Ozzie:
