Welcome to Tuesday, the most pointless day of the week.

On the upside, this Tuesday in South Africa is the day after the Super Bowl (it aired on Sunday in America, but yesterday morning here).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whoever they are, won against the Kansas City Chiefs – more on that here.

While we’re on the topic of Buccaneers, unlike the football team, an East London pub of the same name doesn’t have much to celebrate right now.

Back to the Super Bowl.

One of the best parts of the whole event is the adverts that, due to the exorbitant amounts of money that go into booking a slot, tend to be good fun, even if you aren’t familiar with the American-based companies that put some of them together.

THE GOOD

All-Electric Cadillac LYRIQ – An Edward Scissorhands Sequel Featuring Timothée Chalamet and Winona Ryder

By far my favourite Super Bowl ad, the all-electric Cadillac LYRIQ helps ‘Edgar Scissorhands’ take the wheel with a high-tech helping hand.

Rocket Mortgage – Featuring Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan at his finest.

Uber Eats – Wayne’s World Featuring Cardi B

Peak nostalgia, with a fresh take on an old classic.

THE BAD

Five to 9 – Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ Remix

I love Dolly Parton and the remix, but this is a bit ‘meh’.

Bud Light – Avenger’s Parody

It’s fun but features Post Malone. Enough said.

State Farm – featuring Paul Rudd And Drake

Worth it for the cameos, not so much for the concept.

AND, THE UGLY.

Huggies – Featuring Babies

This is a nappy commercial. That pretty much sums it up.

Doritos – featuring #FlatMatthew McConaughey

Plot summary: He’s flat and then he isn’t after eating some Doritos.

Chipotle – What If A Burrito Could Change The World

Chipotle has some sustainability efforts on the go, and that’s great, but the idea that they’re fixing the world is a bit of a stretch.
