For marketing material, having your hotel nicknamed ‘Hotel Death’ isn’t ideal.
Then again, when you consider how popular the true-crime series has become, that would probably draw a crowd.
The Cecil Hotel was shut in 2016, for a $100 million facelift, and has yet to reopen its doors, so we’ll have to make do with Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.
The Netflix series, which will be released on Wednesday (February 10), takes a closer look at the disappearance and death of Elisa Lam, a young student from Canada. Here’s Thrillist:
Lam’s body was discovered in a water tank in the hotel on February 19 of 2013 and her case has become a subject of armchair detectives’ speculation online, with viral surveillance footage inspiring countless theories about her death ranging from the mundane to the supernatural.
The four-part series will delve into the peculiarities of the Lam case, whilst also taking a look at the building’s notorious history.
