South Africans give our law enforcement agencies stick when they get it wrong (all too often), but we should also give credit where credit is due.
Recently, we saw the ‘Table Mountain Killer, Blessing Bveni, handed two life sentences, with his capture due to some great work on the part of SANParks master tracker Sergeant Minye.
The case of the men dubbed ‘the retirement home killers’ also involved some diligent policing, with Carte Blanche recently on the case:
Motivated by money, two young men set out to con their way into retirement villages from the west of Johannesburg to Mbombela in Mpumalanga.
In what might have appeared to be just a robbery gone wrong, they murdered two elderly women, were arrested, and while out on bail, killed another.
It was such a simple modus operandi that they may have gotten away with many more attempts, were it not for the sharp detective work and collaboration between the community and police that finally put an end to their killing spree.
As per usual with Carte Blanche, there is often a heated on-camera exchange, which you’ll see after the 10-minute mark.
Next thing you know, the camera crew had to beat a hasty retreat.
