Police in this country have to put up with all sorts of trouble from the general public during the lockdown, but in some cases, they’ve been taking things way too far.
The arrest of a man trying to buy formula for his two-day-old baby comes to mind.
Then there are the instances of alleged assault, such as the one captured in a video that went viral earlier this month, showing officers in the process of searching and/or questioning a man before assaulting him with a sjambok.
The latest comes to us from Tshwane, Pretoria, where a group of people in Metro Police uniforms were filmed dragging and assaulting an unidentified person.
IOL reports that it has been confirmed that the officers in the video are from the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD).

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba says that they have seen the video and are conducting an investigation.
“The Tshwane Metro Police Department is conducting internal investigations regarding the video. However no complaint has been formally lodged in relation to the video. We request the person who seems to be assaulted in the video to come forward so we can obtain more information that will assist with the investigation,” said Mahamba.
He says that anyone with any information should contact the TMPD on 083 657 2998, and that any information provided will be treated with confidentiality.
