That ‘Bernie Sits’ Meme Has Just Gone To The Next Level

One of the greatest gifts that the US presidential inauguration gave us was the memes of Bernie Sanders in an old parka and mittens.

The US presidential inauguration brought with it many good things, not least of which an end to Donald Trump’s reign.

There were several outstanding moments, like poet Amanda Gorman, who wowed crowds with her recitation of The Hill We Climb.

And then there were Bernie Sanders’ wool mittens.

Bernie was captured first on video, then in a photo (see above), clad in his usual parka from Burton Snowboards and white and brown mittens knitted for him by Jen Ellis, a teacher in Vermont, who gave them to him in 2016.

He looked like a vocal progressive in comfortable clothing who’s fed up with centrist politics (which he is).

The image has received the meme treatment with Vox describing them as “liberal comfort food”.

We rounded up some of the best:

You’ll find countless more memes, here, here and here.

If that wasn’t enough of a gift, The Verge found a site made by NYU masters student Nick Sawhney that allows you to put Bernie anywhere in the world using Google Street View.

Here’s our own ‘Bernie on Lion’s Head’ meme, generated using the site:
