In happier times, Katlego Maboe and Monique Muller were one of South Africa’s ‘it couples’.
Then that video emerged, where Maboe admitted that he had cheated on Muller, with whom he has a young child, and the wheels soon came off.
He was dropped from his gig at OUTsurance, as well as the Expresso Morning Show, and 2021 started with an arrest and an appearance in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on January 6.
Lawyer Ellen Louis, who is representing Maboe, denied that she had direct contact with Muller. In a statement to News 24, Louis said she had “requested her [Muller’s] family to please stop sending my client [Maboe] messages and to address issues through her lawyer”.
Well, that hasn’t gone down well with Muller, who broke her silence in an interview with TimesLIVE earlier in the week.
Monique said even though she had been warned by the court not to speak to the media about case-related matters, she was concerned it seemed she was the only one adhering to the court’s instructions.
“We are all legally warned by the court not to make comments to the press. However, there seems to be an imbalance as to who the law applies to.”
Monique said she felt like media coverage about their situation had been turned into a “public slander campaign”.
Western Cape police confirmed that Maboe’s arrest was for being in contempt of court, having failed to adhere to a previous court ruling related to accommodation for Muller and their child together.
It was reported earlier in the week that Maboe had kicked Muller out of their Sea Point flat, and stopped paying full rent.
Muller went on to say that “the idea that I’m looking for attention with the allegations I’ve levelled against Katlego is bizarre”, and that she is tired of Maboe and his team turning public opinion against her.
You can read that full interview here, but where things really heated up was over on Muller’s Instagram account.
In an Instagram Story earlier this week, she posted a number of a screenshot showing her interaction with Louis, Maboe’s lawyer.
IOL captured some of those before the Story expired:
A Facebook friend request above, and then this…
Muller says she then received “threats and racist remarks”:
It’s claimed that the Western Cape branch of the Legal Practice Council is currently investigating a complaint regarding the conduct of Maboe’s legal representation.
On Louis’ Instagram account, which is public, she has posted images in support of Maboe, calling him her “favorite intelligent and classy client”.
In another comment, she said “Don’t judge without knowing the truth. Men can be victims too.”
