Usually, on Inauguration Day, the outgoing president and first lady give their successors a tour of the White House, and then travel to the inauguration itself to watch the swearing-in.
But, and here’s an understatement for the ages, Donald Trump was not your usual president.
Instead, he chose to exit the White House via the presidential helicopter, Marine One, and became the first president to skip his successor’s inauguration since Andrew Johnson in 1869.
Here he is, along with Melania (many said they’ve never seen her so happy), hopping aboard the chopper:
Phew.
Having recorded a rather sombre farewell message as president, which was released on Tuesday, Trump decided to go off the cuff in his speech at Joint Base Andrews, having landed en route to Mar-a-Lago, where he will more than likely bunker down and play golf.
He was greeted by a small crowd, made up mostly of fawning former aides, family members, and other loyalists.
Make sure you hang around until the end for the “have a good life” line, too:
My favourite part of the speech? The Trump children, watching on, knowing that their days in office are over and the legal repercussions are coming:
As has become customary, for some unknown reason, Trump again exited the stage to ‘YMCA’, although he didn’t muster his usual fist pump dance routine:
YMCA!?? Trump leaves the White House and his last words are followed by Village People blasting out the 1978-hit “YMCA”. A bizarre end to a strange four years. Then, as Air Force One began to roll on the tarmac, Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ blared from the loudspeakers.
Trump leaves on Air Force One to the Frank Sinatra song “My Way.”

Impossible not to laugh.
Goodbye, Donald. I have no doubt we’ll be hearing plenty from you again, but at least now it’ll be ‘former president Trump’.
