When you live most of your life in the spotlight, like Tiger Woods, it can sometimes seem like there aren’t many secrets left to share.
The world’s most famous golfer, and at one stage arguably the world’s most famous sportsman, saw his carefully curated image unravel after his affairs came to light, and his 2017 DUI arrest came with a mugshot seen around the globe.
Still, it appears that the full extent of his affairs whilst married to Elin Nordegren may have remained somewhat undercover, but now the VIP club hostess at the centre of it all has finally spoken out.
Rachel Uchitel is one of the key figures in Tiger, the two-part HBO doccie which has just finished airing in the US.
You can watch both episodes on Showmx here, and what comes below will contain a few spoilers, so just a heads up.
Whilst the doccie doesn’t feature interviews with Tiger, or ex-wife Nordegren, it does feature some women the golfer would rather didn’t take part.
This from The Daily Beast:
What it does have, however, is the VIP host who would recruit girls for Woods, Charles Barkley, and Michael Jordan at clubs; the Vegas madam alleging that he would sometimes request from her 10 women at a time; and the woman who, through no fault of her own, became the catalyst for the fall of Woods’ empire: Rachel Uchitel, the former New York club hostess who says that, 10 years later, “My name hasn’t lost the stigma at all. It’s always been ‘Rachel Uchitel, Tiger Woods’ Mistress.’”
The doccie details how Tiger’s cheating was becoming known to tabloids, who were tracking him and a number of women.
Then his relationship with Uchitel, who he met at the exclusive Griffin nightclub in New York, gathered pace, and she says they had sex in Orlando, Florida (where Tiger lived with Nordegren), soon afterwards.
He would refer to his time with her as “plugging in,” his time to get recharged away from the madness of his professional life…
Woods had invited Uchitel [above] to join him at the Australian Masters. An Enquirer stringer trailed her arrival to his hotel room. No matter what his team did, they couldn’t kill the story.
When Woods arrived back home, he told Nordegren that a story about an alleged affair would soon run in the tabloids, but denied that there was any truth to it.
That lie soon unravelled, culminating with the moment Nordegren found out:
He put Uchitel on the phone with her [Nordegren] for 30 minutes in an attempt to convince her.
Days later, Uchitel and Woods texted each other, relieved. That night Uchitel got a call from Woods’ phone. She answered, “Hey babe, I thought you went to sleep.”
It was Nordegren: “I knew it was you.”
She then knew for certain that her husband had been unfaithful, and it wasn’t long before scores of other women came forward, detailing their relationships with Tiger.
Aside from the infidelity aspect, and the fact that Tiger himself declined to be involved, the doccie does offer some unique insight into the makings of the man, his relationship with his father, and his rise to stardom.
I’d highly recommend giving it a watch.
