Most of us have had a couple of embarrassing nights out where, after a few shots of tequila, things get a little fuzzy.
For Matthew Perry, that moment came about six months after he presented Bruce Willis with the People’s Choice Award for his role in The Sixth Sense.
Backstage he met Haley Joel Osment, along with director and man with the name that few can pronounce, M. Night Shyamalan.
Fast forward to an evening spent in a bar, where he was drinking with a couple of friends when ‘M. Night Shyamalan’ supposedly walked in, greeted him, and sat down.
They headed off to another club, where at some point, the guy that he thought was M. Night Shyamalan turned out to be a random dude that looks a little like him.
He told Graham Norton the story in 2016:
Fortunately for Perry, much like Friends, his story doesn’t entirely hold up.
Shyamalan recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show with his own version of what happened, and in keeping with everything that he does, there’s a plot twist:
A summary of what Shyamalan says actually happened via ET Canada:
“So we were hanging out and we were having fun, and Matthew’s like, ‘Let’s go to another place.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m a little tired, I’m going to leave here and you can go to the other place.’
Meanwhile, there’s this kind of fan that’s been hanging about and he’s also Indian. And he’s a big fan, he’s come over a couple of times, wants to hang out with us.”
The random guy hanging around decided to go with Perry, and probably had the best night of his life, while Perry was too drunk to notice that his original drinking buddy had gone home.
Shyamalan added, “All these years later I have to see him because we did hang out, we had a great time and he was very funny.”
He couldn’t have been that funny if you left him to feel like a fool for over four years.
