“Hello, Clarice.”
Those two words are enough to send shivers down the spine of anybody who watched The Silence of the Lambs, that 1991 classic starring Jodie Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Also, sincere condolences to anybody named Clarice pre-1991, whose parents would have had no idea what was coming.
Shall we take a moment to watch that scene again? Sure:
Not the kind of bloke you’d let babysit your children.
After releasing a little teaser trailer last year to whet the whistle, CBS dropped the full trailer for Clarice this week, a spinoff show based on the exploits of FBI agent Clarice Starling.
Collider reports:
The series stars Rebecca Breeds (Pretty Little Liars) as FBI Agent Clarice Starling, who returns to the field one year after the events in The Silence of the Lambs.
Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup that comes from a challenging childhood empowers her to begin finding her voice while working in a man’s world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.
Producers have promised “a deep dive into the untold personal story of Starling”, but the bar has been set pretty high.
The Silence of the Lambs won five Oscars, including for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Actress in a Leading Role.
No pressure, Rebecca:
Clarice will premiere on February 11 on CBS.
