Ghislaine Maxwell is married, although, until recently, the identity of her husband had not been confirmed.
Her marriage came to light back in July, during a trial hearing carried out via video feed, but Maxwell “declined” to identify her spouse to court officials.
The sleuths soon got to work, and it wasn’t long before the name of British tech CEO Scott Borgerson emerged.
Borgerson was also reported to have accompanied Maxwell to a dinner hosted by Bill Clinton in 2014.
He has now been confirmed as Maxwell’s spouse, and he’s forking out some serious dosh to try and get her out of jail.
The Telegraph reports:
Maxwell and her new husband will pledge $30 million bail in an attempt to secure her freedom before Christmas…
Borgerson [below], 44, a wealthy tech entrepreneur, is proposing a bail bond of close to $25 million as security which the couple would forfeit should Ms Maxwell then go on the run. Friends say Mr Borgerson is devastated that she remains behind bars…
Ms Maxwell’s siblings, including her brothers Kevin and Ian Maxwell, have agreed to post a further $5 million in bail guarantees. A private security company stands to lose an additional $1 million if Ms Maxwell evades its surveillance.
Maxwell is asking that she be bailed under a form of house arrest, with an electronic tag fitted so that her movements can be monitored.
You may recall that her lawyer has been kicking up an awful fuss about Maxwell’s treatment in prison, and recent reports say she has begun to lose her hair due to stress.
I’d be stressed, too, if I was facing multiple criminal charges, including conspiracy to entice minors, and enticement of a minor, to travel to engage in illegal sex acts; conspiracy to transport minors, and transportation of a minor.
If she was to be granted bail, it’s unclear where she would serve house arrest. When taken into custody back in July, she was hiding out in this New Hampshire home:
A decent place to ride it out until trial.
The FBI has said that Maxwell tried to flee when arrested on July 3, with agents finding a cell phone wrapped in tin foil, in an effort to avoid detection by law enforcement.
Maxwell’s lawyers will head to court in the coming days to argue for her release on bail before Christmas.
