That man above is 67-year-old Louie Gohmert, a Republican representative from Texas.
Like many of his fellow Republicans, Gohmert is opposed to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will see the renaming of several military bases and other government property named after Confederate leaders.
All of that entirely predictable sentiment aside, perhaps the most interesting moment of a press conference he took part in yesterday was what happened to his tooth.
Watch from the 8:10 mark below:
Did he just swallow his tooth like it was no big deal?
To be sure, let’s get in close and slow things down a bit:

Maybe he didn’t swallow it, but still not a great look.
True to Republican form, Gohmert publicly refused to wear a mask to curb the spread of COVID-19, and tested positive back in July.
Fun fact – according to a New York Times article, people with pre-existing dental issues who then caught COVID-19 have complained of losing their teeth, although there isn’t yet enough evidence-backed research to link the two.
After the tooth incident went viral, Gohmert trotted out an old favourite:
Reporters are already more interested in covering the fact that my temporary crown came loose during today’s press conference than they ever were in reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop or the rampant election fraud in the 2020 race. Excellent priorities, as always. #Crowngate

Still banging that Hunter Biden drum, I see, while Donald Trump talks about preemptively pardoning his children before leaving office.
Twitter was characteristically unforgiving to Gohmert with Mashable compiling some of the more stinging takedowns:
i don’t know how to say this without sounding sarcastic but there is truly nothing that i love more than watching our geriatric leaders and lawmakers decompose before our very eyes https://t.co/8ejtiJ48Vv

I always said that Louie Gohmert is the Liz Lemon of Congress https://t.co/KBAgqdjhEY

I would consider that very, very harsh on Liz Lemon.
